Age-Appropriate Style - Hem Lines

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Every woman wants to look their youngest and best. The key to looking great is choosing age-appropriate styles. Unfortunately, many women aren’t sure what the rules are. So as your resident stylist, I am here to help you decipher what is and is not age-appropriate. This will be part one of our series on age-appropriate style.

First and foremost, dressing in clothing meant for girls half your age does NOT make you look younger. In fact, it does the opposite. It ages you!

Let’s start with hem lines. Generally speaking, mini-skirts should be reserved for women under 35, with discretion still being advised. If you are over 35, it is still appropriate to choose a skirt that hits right at your knee but not much shorter. Caution: stay away from the Junior Department. The rises and hem-lines are all inappropriate for women over the age of 22.

A great knee length pencil skirt looks great on women of all ages. You will look chic and young. Obviously a longer skirt is appropriate as any age as well.

Do you need a stylist?

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

Stylists are not just for celebrities anymore! Savvy business women, socialites, and women from every walk of life are learning why they need a stylist.

Perhaps you need a new look? You need a wardrobe for a new job? You need a great group of outfits for your social life? These are all great reasons to hire a stylist. A stylist can help you put together great wardrobes and accessorized looks so that you look stylish, sophisticated, and unique! In addition, a stylist will look at what you have and decide what to incorporate into your new look.

You may be wondering, what makes stylist different from a personal shopper. A personal shopper simply goes out to purchase items as instructed by their client. However, a stylist creates a distinctive look to best suit a person’s personality, body type, and unique goals. The stylist will go beyond simply acquiring new items. They will create a total look from clothing to accessories, hair, and make-up. A personal shopper is more focused on saving a client time, where as a stylist is trying to create a look.

Stylists are professionals who know how to find clothes that fit your body best. A good stylist will assist you in having clothes tailored to fit your body. Not everything fits off the rack!

In addition to creating an individual cohesive look for the client, spending time with a stylist will help you understand how to shop for yourself.

Artfulwears.com founder, Amy Gordon, now offers professional styling services. Check out the website for more information.

Tracy Matthews Designs Kasmir Collection

Friday, September 21st, 2007

Tracy Matthews’ new Kasmir and Gemstone series of Necklaces, Earrings,
Bracelets and Cocktail Rings is a natural evolution of Matthews’ previous
collections of jewelry, incorporating eastern influenced shapes with hand
fabricated components and semiprecious gemstones. New to the Collection
are key items which are already getting noticed: Large format quartz and
topaz stones set “backwards” in a beautiful, eastern shape in sterling
silver. The Kasmir collection consists of Matthews’ interpretations of
women’s jewelry in the modern world. As in her other collections, this
series combines a love of eastern architecture, nature and historical
artifacts.

Kasmir Quartz EarringsMatthews’ strives to create jewelry that is just as lovely alone as it is
worn with other items in the TMD collection and her personal collection.
The beauty of this group is the clean simplicity of the pieces. They can be
worn from day into evening quite easily and surely make a gorgeous statement
regardless of what you are wearing.
Kasmir Quartz Ring
My personal Kasmir Ring just arrived and I LOVE it. The color palette of sparkling quartz is perfect to compliment the fashionable Fall jewel tones.
